Narwal Freo X Ultra

A highly-rated high-quality, highly-functional Gen 4 robot vacuum and mop that has a new approach to design, the Freo X Ultra is a well-made machine. The price of $1400 may be hard to swallow but it is often available to make it more affordable. The unit looks fantastic, and the base station occupies only a tiny space in the corner of the room.

The design of this robot addresses some problems we've encountered with other robotic mop and vacuum units, such as brushes that get caught in hair, and the vacuum brush not being able to reach the bare flooring underneath furniture. The sweeping performance on floors and carpets is also impressive. The vacuum/mop features an excellent level of debris collection and the mop is able to quickly soak up bare floors.

The mops have a sophisticated system that cleans along the edges of walls and around furniture. The robot is able to easily get around obstacles such as toys, food bowls and backpacks. But it can get stuck or get caught up in smaller and less hefty objects, such as shoelaces USB cables, and pens.

We used this robot to vacuum and mop a mixture of pile carpet tiles, FLOR carpet and hardwood floors in an open, large floor plan. With FREO Mind enabled, it cleaned and mopped the 90m2 space in around 170 minutes that's close to the average for Gen 4.

The robot is distinguished by several features. The Freo X Ultra has a slew of software, sensor, and hardware improvements engineered to keep it at the top of its class. It claims 3.5 hours of autonomy in environments of up to 260 square meters.

Freo's app allows you to alter various functions, such as how often the robot returns to the base station. You can also alter the frequency of mopping and the power level (silent or smart), or the mopping humidity. The app can detect heavily soiled spots and create an appropriate cleaning route. It can also dispense detergent or raise the carpet pads.

Other noteworthy features include an easy-to read display on the robot’s underside and an access door for docks that is easy to open. The Freo X Ultra is the most efficient vacuum and mop for home and apartment owners who want to make a difference in their chores, while keeping their home clean and tidy.

Miele Scout RX3

Miele isn't a joke in the world of robot vacuums and has a reputation for quality and innovation. This new robot is designed to take cleaning capabilities to a new level, thanks to its advanced features.

The RX3 features a dual-suction technology and intelligent mapping that incorporates 3D mapping as well as a camera which transmits an image in real-time to your smartphone. The RX3's robust four-stage system is excellent for dust collection on hard floors and carpets. Side brushes that can be swung out with dual suction channels, and a user-friendly interface clean corners. Its 8.5 cm height allows it to reach under furniture with low levels. Front cameras and infrared sensor assist in navigating obstacles, thresholds and obstructions with ease.

In our test of how it cleaned baking soda close to corners and baseboards The Scout RX3 was impressive. Its suction of 2,500Pa was weaker than other robots but it was still silent and moved swiftly. It didn't mop, and its cleaning pad that was removable was difficult to attach. It also couldn't take on dirt that had dried up.

The app doesn't have advanced features like multiple cleaning modes or automated scheduling. It is compatible with Alexa but its voice controls don't seem to be very intuitive or responsive. It's also a little erratic when it returns to the charging station after a run. Other robots can follow the wall or trace an earlier route however the RX3 is a mess until it quits.

Another issue we had was with its clever features, particularly the mapping function as well as digital keep-out zones. While it did a decent job of keeping away from our furniture legs and shoes but it could easily be hung up by cables and socks and it was not able to manage the tassels of rugs. We didn't include the Scout RX3 on our Best Buy list. With a decent price tag and impressive performance The Scout RX3 is worth considering in the event you're looking to find an alternative to traditional uprights.
